FARMER SHOOTS FOUR BOYS

They Are Seriously Wounded and Several Posses Are After the Shooter—He May Be Lynched if Caught.

VICKSBURG, Miss., July 29.—Several posses are now in the hills east of here searching for Ithamar Yerkes, a truck farmer, who Friday afternoon shot and seriously wounded four boys, all of whom are under 10 years of age. They are Warren Cooley, shot in head and body; Frank Smith, shot in head, face and body; Murray Foster, shot in body and legs; Richard Kendall, shot in head and body, fatally wounded. The first two are white. Members of Yerkes family claim the youngsters were stealing watermelons, but this is denied by the boys. Yerkes used a double-barreled shot gun. He may be lynched if caught.
