IMPORTANT Issue.—The N. Y. Herald states that in the conclusion of Mr. McDuffie's speech in the Senate on Monday, 29th ult. on the tariff, the following issue was presented, viz: "An issue between the separation of the States into three republics on the one side—or, the abandonment of the protective system, and the abolition agitation, on the other floor of Congress."

Our readers have not forgotten the attempt that was made at the last session to censure Mr. Adams for merely presenting a petition for the dissolution, declaring at the same time that he had no sympathy with it. Where are the censures now?

But Mr. McDuffie is a southern man and a slave holder, and that makes a great difference!
