In one of their addresses to the Benares, they say that their intercourse with the people of North America has given them a knowledge of that unfortunate people. That there are more than 1,500,000 of our fellow men, who are held in the most deplorable bondage—that they are sold, like cattle or goods, at public auction, often chained together and driven under the whip of an overseer, with every mark of degradation which can be applied to the brute creation—that husband and wife have been torn asunder and sold to different masters: children rent from the bosom of their mothers their heart rending and piteous cries unheeded; their remonstrance deemed presumptuous, and replied to by the blood reeking scourge!!!
