Democrats Find They Have "Put Foot in It" by the Estey Attack and in Their Quick Attempt to Escape Get Other Foot Caught

The expected has happened; the Democratic organ has found out that it was barking up the wrong tree when it began its attacks upon Street Commissioner Estey and now it is trying hard to get out by saying "Never did it." and has shifted its attack to the shoulders of Overseer of the Poor Giroux. Here again they are doomed to disappointment as Mr. Giroux has made a record in his department that has not been equalled for years. He has handled the affairs of this complicated department in a way that caused many remarks of admiration from people who are in a position to know what he has accomplished. Faced by a condition of affairs brought on by the hard times of the Democratic national administration, he has yet conducted his department with such zeal and ability that when the final accounting of the year is completed it will be shown that he has been an exceptionally careful and conservative public servant. One who has done his duty without fear or favor and who has made a record for the year that not only needs no apology but, like that of Commissioner Estey, is one that the Republicans of the city and thinking citizens generally regardless of their political faith will be pleased with.

The most of the department reports for the city are now in the hands of the printer and the annual city report is expected to be out several days before election.
