By a Gentleman lately arrived from Newfoundland we are informed, that on the 4th of September Governor Palliser arrived there, in his Majesty's Ship Guernsey (which he commands) from Chateau Bay, on the Coast of Labradore, where he met 26 of the Esquimaux Indians according to Appointment, with whom, by the Assistance of some Moravian Preachers he had several Conferences, and invited them on board his Ship, where they appeared greatly astonished at the Cannon, and other warlike Preparations, which drew their Attention : That afterwards the Governor, with several of his Officers, and some Merchants to the Northward, met them together on Shore, where he made the Indians several Presents, concluded Peace, and opened a Trade with them : That he is to meet more of those Indians next Season, and gives great Encouragement to Merchants to trade with them : That he is particularly careful to prevent Supplies getting into St. Peter's, and had taken several Vessels there, which were condemned : That they have 4 Engineers at St. John's, & it was said one or more Forts were to be built : And that Sir Thomas Adams, in his Majesty's ship Niger, returned there on the 5th ult. from his Station on the Labradore Coast.
