South Fulton High Host To State Vocal Music Festival

The Georgia Interscholastic Association Class AA High School Vocal Music Festival was held Saturday at the South Fulton High School Gymnasatorium in East Point. Frank S. McClarin was host principal. Mrs. Geraldine Moore, host director.

Participating in the impressive one-day songfest were hundreds of talented young people from various sections of Georgia.

The 11 participating schools were Center High, Waycross; Risley High, Brunswick; Lucy Laney High, Augusta; Athens High; Industrial School, Athens; Ballard-Hudson High, Macon; Monroe High, Albany; Archer High, Howard High, Price High, Turner High, of Atlanta, and South Fulton, of East Point.

THREE CHORAL GROUPS

Each school was represented by three choral groups - a mixed group, girls group and boys group and there were several promising young soloists. To get the history-making music festival underway a mass choir of approximately 500 voices sang "Let Us Break Bread Together."

The festival was also a music clinic, in that the judges pointed out the outstanding, strong and weak points of the competing groups. These groups were rated as superior, excellent, good, fair and poor, on the basis of tone, technic, intonation, interpretation, general effect, selection and accompaniment.

The judges included: Mrs. Grace B. Boggs and Earl Saunders, of Spelman College, Miss B. E. Benson and J. H. Chadwell, of Albany State College.

Commenting on the festival Mrs. Boggs said, It was a stimulating and enjoyable experience."

Mr. Chadwell, who has attended the festivals for several years said he was "always happy to be a part of such a rewarding experience."
