A writer in the Boston Palladium reports that tides this year have been higher than in preceding years, with even higher tides expected next year due to lunar and solar alignments. The highest tide this year is predicted for the 25th instant at 12 feet 6 inches, potentially increased by an easterly storm; property at wharves should be secured. The February 17 tide last year reached similar height but was affected by wind.

Full Text

High Tides,-A writer in the Boston Palladium states, that the tides of the present year have generally been considerably higher than those for many years preceding, and that those of next year will be still higher-which is occasioned by several of the new or full moons, happening when she is nearest possible to the earth, the sun quite near, and both in the equator; the coincidences of which circumstances is absolutely necessary to produce the greatest possible tide. The highest tide this year will be on the 25th inst. when it is computed it will rise 12 feet 6 inches-but should an easterly storm occur at the same time, it will be considerably increased, and those having property at the wharves, &c. will do well to secure it. The tide of the 17th of February last, was computed at the same height; but although rather depressed by a S W. wind covered a large portion of the Boston wharves.
