Full Text
By dispatches from Fort Loudoun we are informed, That the garrison was very miserable, and their provision reduced to two ounces of rotten meat, and a pint of corn per day, at which allowance they had not more than would last them six weeks: The Little Carpenter has sent down a good talk, and says his countrymen will ask for peace, but he believes they will not be sincere.
Capt. Demere had ransomed a woman and three children from the Indians, but the poor woman had been so cruelly used that she died soon after. The Indians burn all their men prisoners; they had lately burnt six at Coosahatchee (the sugar town) among them John Downing, whose arms and legs they first cut off, and otherwise tortured him.
