GRAND JURY TAKES UP ASSAULT CASE
Probabie That No Bill Will Be Returned Against Jap

No indictment will be brought in against Hayashi, the Japanese servant who has been under arrest for assault in the sensational Bode case, according to all the information that can be learned. The Grand Jury took the matter up this morning, and both Mrs. Bode and Miss Griffiths were witnesses.

The sum and substance of the whole matter seems to be that there is not sufficient evidence that the person who committed the assault was Hayashi, and it is probable that no bill will be returned against him. Various other rumors as to how the assault was committed have been floating around the community for the past few days, though it is probable under the existing circumstances that the truth or falsity of these will never be brought to light.
