DAUGHTERS OF CONFEDER-
ACY YESTERDAY AFT.
ERNOON.
At the regular
meeting, yesterday
afternoon of the Robert E. Lee Chap-
ter of the United Daughters of the
Confederacy, at the home of Mrs. E.
G. Frame, the Southern Cross of Hon-
or was conferred upon eleven veter-
ans, namely, John T. Beall, Wm. F.
Caldwell, J. K. Holbert, A. M. King,
R. J. Mason, W. H. Neptune, John
Richter, Jos. B. Robinson, W. L.
Straight, J. P. Strickler and T. W.
Wilcox.
Mrs. J. Edwin Robinson, president
of the chapter, conducted the cere-
mony, which was of an impressive na-
ture.
Judge W. S. Haymond, who in his
boyhood days was a member of the
Confederate army, made a brief ad-
dress to the chapter and veterans.
The conferring of the Southern
Cross of Honor by the Robert E. Lee
Chapter yesterday was the first time
in the brief history of the organization.
There was a large attendance of the
members and the veterans receiving
the honors expressed their apprecia-
tion strongly.
