Savannah Will Get the Navy Yard.
Yesterday before leaving, Lieut. Kennedy of the naval commission spoke quite freely about the location of the proposed navy yard. He said that the visit here and inspection of our harbor had astounded the entire party, and with such advantages as Savannah offered he could not understand how the Secretary of War had overlooked our city at first. "After our report is sent in," said the lieutenant, "there is hardly a doubt but that Savannah will be selected."
Close connection with the iron and coal fields, fresh water harbor, pure artesian water, and the great interest taken in the sanitary condition of this locality, make it doubly desirable. Besides, the men stationed here will have the immense advantage of living well, and at the same time economically, since Messrs. Dryfus Bros. have pledged themselves to sell their nobby, stylish clothing to them at the same close figures that they are furnishing all their friends at. And this is an item not to be overlooked.
