HERE's a report the General Court
To regulate the lawyer,
Of late in fact have pass'd an act.
But quite forgot the Lawyer.
Whose avarice is such a vice,
Whose fees and words (as well as boards)
The country scarce can bear :
Should all be brought to Square.
To stop the use, and sad abuse
Of all fermented liquor ;
Pray make a law, and then we'll saw
Our boards a little thicker.
To regulate affairs of state,
Requires a close attention ;
But to bind some while others run
Is not a good intention.
Good wholesome laws may be a cause
Of curbing depravation ;
But virtuous ways is what gets praise
Unto a state or nation.
