DECEMBER 24, 1817.
Yesterday the squadron under the command of Com. Henley, and the troops under the command of Colonel Bankhead, entered the harbor of Fernandina, when the troops landed, marched into the fortifications, and hoisted the American flag.
No resistance was made. The followers of Aury are composed of negroes, violators of the revenue laws, and the adventurers and profligate of all nations.
Colonel Bankhead has established a police for the preservation of order and tranquility at Fernandina, until civil authority be introduced by the government.—City Gaz.
