National Institute Washington—
The National Intelligencer says: 'Our
intelligent Consul at Singapore, Joseph
Balestier, Esq., in a late letter announ-
ces that his Royal Highness, Prince
Momfanoi, of Bankok, Siam, Comman-
der-in-Chief of all the forces of that em-
pire, has sent to his care several cases
for the National Institute, of which his
Highness is a member. The freight
on these valuables has been paid by
Mr. Balestier with great liberality, by
whom they have been shipped to Boston
on board the ship India.

A letter has since been received from
Mr. Palmer, of the American and For-
eign Agency New York, enclosing a
letter from Prince Momfanoi, stating
that in consequence of his election as
a member of the Institute, he forwards
for its benefit fifty-seven jars, contain-
ing snakes, fish and fruit; and a quanti-
ty of birds and other animals.'

The Prince adds: "Having myself
charge of the military affairs of this
kingdom, should the Institute deem it
suitable to forward me books on the
the military or naval art, such as field
exercises, heavy ordinance, science of
war, &c., &c. They will be gratefully
received. If accompanied by plates
their value will be enhanced. It will
afford me much pleasure, on hearing of
the safe arrival of these boxes, to for-
ward such other articles as may here-
after prove serviceable to the interest
of the Institute. I cherish a friendly
remembrance of the officers of the Ame-
rican expedition which visited this
country in 1833 and 1836, bearing E.
Roberts, Esq., as Envoy, and shall be
most happy to hear of their welfare."
