FINAL TOTAL OF OFFICER SEEKERS SETS NEW RECORD

598 Candidates, Largest Number in History of County Elections, File Petitions in Their Quest for Office.

The board of elections was almost swamped Friday night as nearly 50 more candidates added their names to the list of over 500 who had filed their petitions earlier in the month, for city, village, township and county offices.

It was the heaviest last minute rush for some time, according to Attorney H. A. McCown, clerk of the board, who was assisted by Miss Elizabeth Griffith and members of the election board in handling the rush.

When the smoke had cleared away, there were exactly 598 petitions listed. In Upper township alone there are 78 candidates for the 16 elective offices. In Coal Grove there are 40 candidates for the 12 offices.
