CABLE OPENING

It has been suggested by several that some ceremonial celebration be held in connection with the sending of the first cable message with the outside world. Western towns invariably celebrate the entrance of a railroad with a festival and general holiday and some idea of the kind in the present instance seems likely to take the popular fancy. The message would be carefully considered and sent to the president according to proposed plans while arrangements for a reply would be made beforehand.

Mr. Dickinson would be willing to do anything that would conform with and help out the plans. The community at large which is building many expectations and looking forward eagerly to the consummation with the mainland may soon be canvassed on this matter which is likely to be broached soon through the medium of the Chamber of Commerce and the Merchants' Association.
