TRYING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
The Prohibition State Central Committee Makes Some Suggestions--A New Party with a New Name.
The state central committee of the Prohibition party of Minnesota has issued the following circular to the national Prohibition committee:
Gentlemen: The state central committee of the Prohibition party of Minnesota would most respectfully submit these suggestions for your consideration:
The union of all Prohibitionists is the hope and only solution of the prohibition problem. The wonderful march of events in American politics, the peculiar disintegrated condition of party organization at the present time, and the prevalent prohibition sentiment existing in the rank and file of all parties, demand that some immediate action be taken to bring into harmonious relations and consolidate in our party all who believe in protecting the home against the saloon.
The prohibition of the licensed dram shop is now recognized as a national issue. It becomes us now to make the advance, offering to meet and co-operate with all who are willing to labor to carry the issue to success.
A new party is demanded, which all can join regardless of past political affiliations. The position already gained seems to necessitate the formation of this new line of battle. It also seems advisable that the new party should take a new name that all may meet upon a common level, and the bickerings and jealousies begotten in the heat of the contest may the more readily pass away.
We believe that the needs of the hour imperatively demand such a movement; also that the building up of a grand party that shall carry forward to success all the great political reforms of the present, is inevitable.
Therefore, we beg to further suggest that the national committee shall correspond and advise with representative persons of all parties and factions, known to be favorable to our cause, in regard to calling a national conference under the broadest call consistent with the great issue that forms its basis, and liberal to the utmost bound of expediency and right.
L. W. Denton, Chairman.
W. W. Satterlee, Secretary.
