The Dunstable Straws. —A correspondent of the Boston Daily Advertiser states that Foxboro' and not Roxboro' is entitled to the credit of making the "Dunstables." They are of a pattern first introduced in London, but not rendered fashionable until they had passed the ordeal of Paris, "le centre du bon gout." These Diamond plats were first introduced at New-York by two English ladies, and soon after patterns were sent from Foxboro'. These, at a cost of $2, sold for 15. They now pay a small profit of 100 per cent. Foxboro' has made straw bonnets an article of trade for 30 years. It is estimated that there are sent annually to the south from 80 to 100,000 dollars worth of bonnets, besides the amount sent to Boston and other places. The article is subject to great fluctuation in price, and whenever a new fashion is successfully introduced, the girls apply themselves night and day to making bonnets, and reap a good harvest, as do also the bonnet merchants.
