The republican county convention, which convened at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, and which adjourned until 7 that evening, completed its work at a little after 9 o'clock, nominating full legislative, county, precinct and city tickets, making what is conceded on all sides to be one of the strongest and cleanest tickets ever placed before the people of Albany county. There was entire harmony at all times during the sessions of the convention. Many of the candidates were nominated without opposition, but in two or three instances there was a spirited contest, absolutely good natured. The first of these contests came when Will McMurray and Sheridan Downey were placed in nomination for county attorney. But one ballot was necessary, the full strength of the convention being shown in the balloting, which resulted as follows:
Downey 34
McMurray 19
There was no further contest until the office of road supervisor was reached, when George Nottage, August Kassahn and O. V. Stromberg were placed in nomination. Fifty-three ballots were cast in this contest, the result being in doubt on the first ballot until the clerk had announced the vote, as Chairman Atherly held that the successful candidate must receive a majority of all votes cast. The ballot was tabulated as follows:
Stromberg 27
Nottage 19
Kassahn
Mr. Knadler for sheriff, Mr. Hoge for treasurer, Mr. Langheldt for county clerk, Mr. Merriam for clerk of court, Mr. Houston for assessor, Mr. Christensen and Mr. Reid for commissioners, Mr. Schilling for surveyor, Mrs. Knight for superintendent of schools, Dr. McCollum for coroner, Judge Hynds for justice of the peace and the various candidates for justice of the peace and constable in the rural precincts were nominated by acclamation
In the contest for constable of Laramie precinct there were two candidates--A. J. Jones, the present incumbent, and Samuel Wallace, only the delegates from Laramie precinct casting votes in the ballot order by the chairman. The result follows, Mr. Wallace being declared the nominee:
Wallace 17
Jones 12
City Convention.
The delegates from the three city wards of Laramie then resolved themselves into a convention for the purpose of nominating candidates for mayor and councilmen, with the following results
Mayor--C. D. Spalding.
Councilman First ward--J. H. Jackson.
Councilmen Second Ward, long term--Ole Thompson; short term, I. W. Emmons
Third Ward--Louis Soderstrom
Thanks to Officers
On motion of Mr. Hynds the thanks of the convention were tendered to the chairman and secretary for the efficient services in governing the convention, the vote being unanimous.
County Committee.
On motion of Mr. Boswell, the matter of selecting a county central committee was left to the candidates of the convention.
On motion of Mr. Roach, the county committee was empowered to fill vacancies in the county, precinct and city tickets.
At 9 o'clock the convention adjourned.
