A SQUARE ISSUE.
If the organized workingmen persist in the determination to cut loose from the politicians, and nominate their own tickets, they will draw from the old parties and weaken them both in point of numbers. The leaders of the corrupt parties being either capitalists or base hirelings, having the same interests as opposed to the workingmen, may find it expedient to unite against them, as they did in Naugatuck last year. This will make the issue between Capital and Labor a square one, and the chances are that Labor, united into one political faction, will win. To be sure, the corruptionists are well versed in wirepulling, but honesty and superior numbers should be more than a match for the strategy of corruptionists.
One thing is certain, namely, that workingmen, divided into hostile parties, and officered by their bosses only apparently hostile, can never throw off the yoke of wage slavery. They must cease to be used as voting cattle, and control their politics from the root up; and this they can only do by utterly forsaking their old party ties and uniting in one grand faction that will compel the exploiters of both parties to follow suit. Then let the contest at the ballot box begin. The result must eventually be the supremacy of Labor over Capital.
Brothers, think over it now and act soon.
