Encouraged by dry foliage and underbrush several forest fires on the Eastern Shore of Maryland are smoldering after laying vast areas of valuable timber land with an estimated loss in excess of $100,000. More than 7000 acres of woodland is devastated and several farm houses were swept away.

The flames were finally brought under control through sheer exhaustion of its fury. A volunteer force of a hundred men attempted to halt the progress of a fire between Sharptown and Mardela, in Wicomico county, and finally succeeded when flames had made a path four miles in length.
