The Toronto correspondent of the New York Herald says:
"There is no disguising the fact that the execution of Mrs Surratt is condemned by the great majority of the population. No one sympathizes with Payne, Atzerott, or Harold."

Against
Mrs. Surratt.
Mr Weichman, one of the principal Government witnesses against the unfortunate Mrs Surratt, whose testimony has since been rendered worthless by his subsequent admissions to Mr John P. Brophy, is out in a card of self defense. He denies Brophy's statements, and says "Brophy is an alien, unnaturalized, and has never taken the oath of allegiance to the Government he attempts to assail in the person of its chief witness."
Now that may all be, but it is certain that Brophy is a gentleman whose truth and veracity are not questioned. "Potomac," the Washington correspondent of the Baltimore Sun, says of him:
"Mr Brophy, who makes the affidavit to Weichman's testimony against Mrs Surratt, resides here, a teacher in the Gonzaga College, and is a gentleman universally esteemed and respected by a large circle of acquaintances."
Mr Brophy has pretty effectually riddled all that Weichman said against his victim.—[Cincinnati Enquirer.
