MILAN, October 1.
The Austrian troops, which, to the number of 10,000, were encamped near Pavia, have at length, on the pressing solicitations of his Sardinian Majesty, begun to march to his assistance in Piedmont, as the French army, under the command of General Montesquiou, has taken possession of the Duchy of Savoy, and the county of Nice. This unexpected intelligence has occasioned great commotion here.
Orders are given for a general recruiting: which is carried on with the utmost vigour. Large quantities of artillery are sent to the frontier places, and engineers have been sent to inspect and augment their fortifications.
