Operations Expected to Begin
Monday Morning
It is now expected that the T. M. & M. Co. will on Monday begin operations on their cyanide plant with force 20 or 25 men. Everything has been in readiness to start for several days but delay was caused by the non-arrival of chemicals which have been sent for and will arrive tonight.
The capacity of the plant is 30 tons daily, and will keep the force of men constantly busy. The crusher which will grind the ore to supply the main-work tanks, is a new patent roller process and does its work quickly and satisfactorily.
Steam will be furnished from the boilers and furnace of the Girard mill while the precipitation will be done by an improved modern method of electricity dynamo being in connection and when in operation a description of its workings will be given.
The vast dumps of the West Side will first be hauled to the sheds of the new plant for treatment. Should this system of extracting the precious metals prove successful in the treatment of this particular class of ore, enough mineral is in the various dumps on the open ground to keep a plant of treble the capacity in operation for 30 years.
The cyanide system is now becoming in general use in mining sections for the profitable treatment of low grade ores, and the introduction of a modern plant by this liberal and enterprising company is hailed as a boon to Tombstone, as upon its success with the treatment of their ores, the character of which is general throughout the district, a new era in mining will be opened and a revival or reanimation from a state of languor or depression will be awakened by the owners of many mines whose dumps were considered worthless heretofore.
