Gluttony. A short time since the Duke of Queensbury made a bet of a thousand guineas, that he would produce a man, who would eat more at one meal than any Sir John Lade could find; the bet being accepted, the time was appointed, but his Grace not being able to attend the exhibition, he wrote to his agent to know what success, and accordingly received the following note:

"My Lord,

I have not time to state particulars, but merely to acquaint your Grace, that your man beat his antagonist by a pig and an apple-pie."
