Local deer hunters for the most part reported a successful five-day open season in the nine northern counties with an abundance of both hunters and deer. The season closed Saturday at sunset.
Reports from the State Division of Game and Fish state that no figures can as yet be furnished as to the number of licenses sold or the number of deer taken. Last year in a ten day open season 49,000 big game hunters took to the woods with an estimate of nearly 40,000 deer taken. The season on bear was closed this fall.
