Full Text

The letter of Mr. Carlisle in relation to his acceptance of the nomination for President at the Chicago convention is a strong and frank statement of his views in relation to the great issues now before the people. He states very plainly that the principles of the party, its position and purpose with regard to the great financial issues of the time are more important than its candidates, and when its position has been clearly taken the selection of a candidate to represent it will not be difficult. This distinguished Democratic statesman feels that he has made his record as Secretary of the Treasury, and he is more concerned to win approval for that and to bring the Democratic party to the position he represents than he is to gather in delegates.
