Federal income tax collections in Virginia this year were 45 per cent ahead of last year, according to a State-by-State study made public in Washington. Virginia's gain was far ahead of the nation's average, which was 31 per cent. In other words, the Old Dominion gained nearly 50 per cent more than the nation as a whole. Comparative figures for the first 20 days in March revealed that $5,570,499 in Federal income taxes were collected in Virginia last year. while this year they amounted to $8,073,819.
States outranking Virginia in percentage of increase included Michigan, 81 per cent; Rhode Island, 77 per cent; Delaware, 73 per cent; Ohio, 62 per cent, and Indiana, 56 per cent.
