CONGRESSIONAL ELECTION.

1643 2335

Craig's majority in the district 691.

Extract of a Letter to a Gentleman in this place, dated Huntersville, May 1839.

Sir--Moved by gratification, I send you a statement of our Election, by which you will see Pocahontas has elected a Whig to represent us in the next Legislature :

Col. Tallman, Whig 68

Gay, Administration 63

Grimes, Conservative 32

Pilman do. 15

Kenason do. 4

You will observe by the above statement Tallman is elected by a majority of 5 votes over Gay. The election was very thinly attended, and very little interest displayed, but I have no doubt but it will be equally cheering to you when you see Pocahontas has come out of the ashes.

The majority of Lucas for Congress in the Frederick district is nominally 10--but it is said that Mr. Barton will contest the election, as he has a decided majority of the qualified voters.
