Full Text

Aug 21. We are credibly informed by a private Letter from Paris, that an English Lady of the first Quality, but more particularly distinguished for her exquisite Beauty, than has been there for some Time, had very nearly (but by a Prevention very timely and fortunate) met with an Insult of the grossest Kind, much to the Disgrace of the Person that intended it, (and it may be observed) very little to the Credit of his most Christian Majesty's Subjects, from whom Strangers, especially of Distinction, demand Civility, which indeed hitherto has been the Characteristic of that polite Nation. We hear also, that the Lady with her Noble Consort, are set out for the Spa within these few Days, probably to prevent too much Notice of this Affair, or any second Attempt of the like Nature from a disappointed and insolent Man.
