Full Text

The Flag contains an excellent article relative to Marshall, in which reference is made to the new buildings erected or in course of construction, the fact that the railroad will be completed to Shreveport within the ensuing two months, the excellent schools in operation, the fine church edifices, and the advantages of the place as one of residence.

No one will controvert the fact that Marshall is one of the prettiest towns in the South, that its society is most agreeable, the various professions filled by gentlemen of ability, and that its pulpit orators are only equalled in the most favored of the large cities. There is one matter to which our cotemporary does not allude, and which, from a partial diagnosis of his character, we never supposed he would have passed over in silence. We refer to the ladies. Perhaps he was afraid to trust himself upon a theme in which his feelings would be likely to be so much enlisted. Few places can boast of such a number of charming and beautiful women and girls. It is the greatest attraction of the place: the theme of admiration and remark among strangers, and has given Marshall more character abroad than all of its other attractions, with the Pacific Railroad thrown in.
