And the Boys on their Way to Washington.
Special Dispatch to The Evening Critic.
West End Hotel, Long Branch, N.J., Aug. 25.-Camp Hoey was struck at 8:30 this morning, and now the town where the tents stood reveals only squares of bleached grass where the canvas houses of the military were located.
At eleven o'clock the officers and members of the corps were invited by the Messrs. Hildreth to a champagne lunch spread in the main dining-room of the West End.
When the soldiers were grouped about the tables, Captain Alexander Henriquez, of the Old Guards of New York, on behalf of the Hildreths (senior and junior), welcomed them to the spread in a most eloquent speech. At the conclusion of the lunch, Colonel Moore responded on behalf of the corps, and captured the assemblage by his witty rejoinder.
Then the corps cheered, and "Who was General George Washington?" was rendered with a vim, and then the men filed out, bidding goodby to the ladies of the hotel and others who had gathered to see them off.
At 12:10 o'clock the corps was in ranks and moved to the front of the main portico of the West End, the band playing "The Girl I Left Behind Me," where they halted and gave a farewell cheer to the genial proprietor and his guests, after which they marched to Long Branch Station and embarked for the homeward trip.
The special train to convey them to Washington left Long Branch at 12:52 o'clock, and the officials of the Pennsylvania Railroad in charge of it declare it will reach Washington at 8 p. m. sharp.
