A Melancholy Tale. — The dead body of a person, of whose name no trace could be found, was discovered on Thursday, the 12th inst. under a tree about a mile South of Apponaug Village, R. I. on land belonging to Judge Sayton, known by the name of great hollow. It appeared that he had taken shelter under the tree, before the last rain, as the trace of his footsteps in the snow had been washed out, and probably had expired from the effects of the cold. The deceased was one of the wretched wanderers who travel the country without object. He was of an advanced age, rather above the middle size, and his locks extremely white — Two or three bundles of rags, a pair of boot tops, about 50 cents, and a four pence half penny, were found about his person, together with pieces of iron, brass, &c. indicating an unsettled state of mind. The deceased had not sought shelter any where in the neighborhood, nor could any person be found who had seen him before. The Coroner's inquest returned the above facts in substance, and the body was decently interred at the public expense.
