STATE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.
We were very much pleased to learn that in the
House of Delegates yesterday a bill was introduced
incorporating a State Agricultural Society and
providing for the establishment of District Agricultural
Societies throughout our limits. It is also
proposed in the bill to endow each society with a
portion or an equal and reciprocal contribution from
the individual members of such counties.
This is as it should be. As the foundation of
every other interest in the State, and by far the
most important of them all, it is proper that money
should be liberally bestowed in aid of agriculture;
and we hope the Legislature will not refuse the
sum asked for, a sum which, considering the magnitude
of the subject, is but a mere pittance. Let
them have it, say we, and more if they require it
for so just a purpose as "the advancement of learning"
in the noble art of husbandry.
