Melbourne, L. C. Jan. 8, 1833.
Dear Brethren,
There has been a Freewill Baptist church in this place about 13 years. We have met with considerable opposition and discouraging events; but hitherto the Lord has been our helper. Previous to the late revival, our church consisted of 14 members. About one year ago we had some refreshing from the presence of the Lord, and one or two were converted. On examining ourselves, we found a good union in the church, and the members appeared to be waking up. The little praying company took hold together in the cause of the Redeemer, and we can truly say that we have seen heavenly seasons since that time. Our country is thinly settled, and we are surrounded with Episcopalians and Roman Catholics; but our brethren and sisters are bold in their Master's cause, and stand fast in the liberty of the gospel. 40 or 50 have been hopefully converted within a year. I have baptized 28, and there are others, I think, that will attend to this sacred ordinance soon. I experienced religion when about 13 years of age, and have seen a number of reformations; but this is more solemn than any other that I have witnessed. The labors of Br N. J. Robinson, of the Sebec quarterly meeting, have been very useful in this work. The revival is not entirely over, though it does not progress so rapidly as at first. Our present number is 44.
Yours in the bonds of Christian affection-
WILLARD BARTLETT.
