SIR,
HAVING in my possession an indented agreement
with Mr. Talmadge Hall, of your city, where-
in he is bound to erect, finish and furnish me with
an elegant DANCING ROOM for three years, &c. &c.
and hearing, during the summer, that he was not in the
execution of the BUILDING, I made all my arrange-
ments in the country to conform to my original in-
tentions of opening a School this fall in New York.
and therefore sent you an advertisement, which you
published in your paper; but having since heard of
Mr. Hall's misfortune, and that he has left New-
York, without accomplishing his engagement to
me, by finishing said Dancing Room; and as there
can be no other one engaged for the season, I am
constrained to relinquish the satisfaction I had an-
ticipated, of serving my good friends in New-York.
and remain for the winter in this city. Had not this
unexpected event happened, I should, before this
day, have been in New-York, and participated the
pleasures of the season, in your flourishing and a-
greeable city. I am, Sir, your humble servant,
JOHN GRIFFITHS.
