The village of Fairplay on the road between Hazel Green and Dubuque, was the scene of a fire about midnight Friday when the property of William Budden, including a dance hall, soft drink parlor, ice house, chicken house and dwelling was burned out. The family managed with the help of the neighbors to save the household furniture. The damage approximated nearly $8,000. The loss is partially covered by insurance.
The fire started about 11 o'clock and had its inception in the ice house where an electric generating machine used for lighting was housed. For a time the property of neighbors was threatened.
