500
Cards Yearly
Rochester—Between 500 and 600
post cards are destroyed each year
at the Rochester postoffice for lack
of adequate addresses of persons
intended to be the recipients. Most
of the cards are apparently from
transients, especially visitors and
patients
at
the
Mayo clinic.
Strangely enough, these hundreds
of communications carry no ad-
dress whatever, being blank of
writing on the side opposite the
message. Everything from comedy
to tragedy is contained on the cards
An example: "Hello, Ma: How are
you all? This is some place. All you
hear is 'my operation' and how
they feed their hogs. Am feeling
fine. Love, Betty."
Although let-
ters are sent to the dead letter
office when addresses are insuffi-
ient, post cards are simple held in
the office and soon destroyed.
