What is this article about?
In Haverhill on the President's birthday, a vessel master refused to hoist the American flag, raised a bloody flag instead, and made derogatory remarks about the President. Tis said that on the President's birth day, when all the masters of vessels in Haverhill, had hoisted the American flag in honor of the day, except one who was in a small coasting vessel, purchasing cider : a citizen of that town enquired the reason of this singularity, and asked if he had no colours. He answered, he would see the President d—d before he would honour him so much ; but that he would hoist a bloody flag at half mast, and some other observations of that kind ;—these were repeated at the table when the federal citizens dined' together in public. The consequence was this—they chose a committee of six to wait on the malcontent, and demand satisfaction for the insult. They immediately found him out, obliged him to pull down the bloody flag, which was actually hoisted—raise the American ensign, ask their pardon for such behaviour, and promise repentance and reformation, upon this they let him go unpunished. This man I understand lives in Falmouth.
