Full Text

"The Spirit of the Evening Press."

The Tribune is of opinion that political parties are a great scare-crow to a certain ostensible editor of the Life Boat, and the certain ostensible editor is of opinion that political parties are a very great scare-crow to the editor of the Tribune. The sublime wit in this retort will be perceived at once. The Tribune slightly intimates that the aforesaid ostensible editor is angling for office, and the ostensible editor is equally pointed in his declarations that the editor of the Tribune once angled "in Democratic streams for the fishes," himself. This is merely the commencement of the controversy, and of course we can't imagine how much sharper the retorts will become. It is evident that the spirit of the evening press is up.
