Full Text

Wednesday last many persons in Middletown were surprised to see a canvas tent of imposing dimensions pitched on the vacant lot south of Cox & Bro's. carriage factory. A general impression seemed to take hold among the people that a circus had arrived, or was about to arrive, and it is said that Col. Hanson, our energetic and very efficient Town clerk, put out in search of the proprietors to request them to take out a license before opening their show, and some little girls on Green street, after an anxious vigil at the gate, ran into the house exclaiming, "Oh, we've watched for ever so long, and the brass band and elephant hav'nt come yet!" It was finally discovered that the mysterious tent was the property of the M. E. church people, and that they propose holding in it a series of extra meetings. Ask Col. Hanson about it.
