Arrival of the John Adams.--The U. States corvette, John Adams, capt. Renshaw, arrived at Norfolk, 22d ult. from a cruise in the Gulf of Mexico, and last from Havana. In her has come passenger, the Hon. Joel R. Poinsett, member of Congress, who went out in her for the purpose of acquiring information relative to the government and institutions of the new Empire. Upon the arrival of Mr. Poinsett at the city of Mexico, he was informed that a number of the followers of Gen. Long, in his expedition against the province of Texas, were in prison in that place. He went immediately to see them, and feeling a lively sympathy for their deplorable situation interceded with the Emperor for their release, and they were at his instance, sent to Tampico, and put on board the John Adams.
