MILITARY PROGRAM
New York, Aug. 11.--Columbia university, through Dean Herbert E. Hawkes, has announced details of the program of the new department of military art, under direction of Colonel John P. Finley, professor of military science and tactics, for the instruction of undergraduate students in that college when compulsory military training goes into effect next fall.
Military instruction in the first half year will include physical drill, infantry drill and small arms firing instruction.
Instruction in the second half year will take up practical and theoretical phases of target shooting, military organization, map reading, with practical work on the subject; physical and infantry drill continued; ceremonies and inspections, manuals, field intrenchments, first aid, personal hygiene and camp sanitation; service of security, small arms firing, miscellaneous lectures, combat and infantry drill regulations.
