THE RAGING COLORADO.—The Yuma Sentinel says: The Colorado river has reached a higher stage during the present rise than for several years. The highest mark registered was 27 feet 11 inches. This was not long maintained, but it has hovered between 27 and 28 feet for several days. The gauge showed 27 feet 6 inches this (Wednesday) morning, and a falling river. This results from the overflow in the lower end of the valley have been somewhat more serious than common during the high water periods, but no damage of extremely serious proportions has been done. The headgate of the Ludy canal has stood the pressure well, showing that it was well planned and constructed. The necessity, however, for a substantial levee along the Colorado river has again been emphasized, and the question should again be taken up and no rest taken until one is constructed. Government help should be asked, and we believe if the question is properly and energetically handled congress can be induced to give us an appropriation for the purpose this winter.
