Full Text

Mr. Thomas, (under sentence of death for the murder of Capt. Drown) was very near making his escape on the night of the 30th ult. He had, by the help of some friends, procured a pair of pincers, with these he was enabled to extricate himself from his irons : this done, he crawled up chimney as far as he thought prudent, and with the pincers began to pick a hole through large enough to make his escape ;but by the time he had got the hole through the chimney, he found the morning was so far advanced, that it would be needless for him to prosecute his plan any farther at that time: he therefore, with a heavy heart no doubt, crept down, and so to his dreary habitation again.
