It is with pleasure we regard the fact that Mr. Hogan, of Santiago, has located and recorded some rich ground in the Santiago mountains. From chips of stone taken at random, we hear the assay of three hundred dollars to the ton has been got. Enough work has been done on the locations to prove the existence of a large body of ore. Mr. Bush, the carpenter, and numbers of others, have also proved the fact, and in all probability several companies will be formed and several hundred men will be constantly and remuneratively employed, ere many months. We learn the supply of ore, when properly developed, would be inexhaustible. Parties well posted, pronounce the Santiago silver mines to be richer than the Consolidated Virginia, California and other celebrated mines. It only wants capital and labor to develop our rich mineral resources. There is far more gold and silver in the undiscovered and undeveloped mines in Southern California, than has been altogether extracted since the 'days of old, the days of gold, the days of '49.' John Hogan, the well-known 'Champion Sloper,' now at the Santa Ana Camp, got fourteen dollars worth of gold from fourteen pounds of quartz, when on a prospecting tour some months ago. He is naturally reticent as to the particular 'locale' of this rich find. He is one who would not make a false statement and this rich find of his proves that the day is not far distant when the music of the 'stampers' will cheer all our hearts, fill all our pockets and soothe our troubled souls. We hope the Santa Ana Hogans may become 'Bonanza Kings,' like their fellow countrymen, Flood, O'Brien, Mackay and Fair. Such prospectors merit a rich harvest for the hard lives and times they encounter.
