Full Text

Garvey's testimony, in the trial of Mayor Hall, of New York City, while directly and fearfully implicating the defendant, is said to be incidentally almost as damaging to Tweed. A New York special says that Garvey's statement of his conversation with the Mayor, wherein the latter said that he (Garvey) should do what Tweed and his associates told him to, produced a startling sensation, not only on the spectators but on Mayor Hall. It was the first time during the trial that Hall seemed for a moment excited. The circle is at last narrowing around the corporation thieves. It looks as if all the material charges of municipal frauds against the Mayor would be substantiated.
