The Two Georges.—The Copperheads

complacently style their Presidential candidates

the Two Georges. They have made an unlucky

choice. The Georges of England are

the only comparisons they dare make—as the

Father of his Country stands alone and unapproachable.

The poet Landor thus condenses

Thackeray's lectures on the English Georges

George the First was reckoned vile.

Viler George the Second;

And what mortal ever heard

Any good of George the Third?

When from earth the fourth ascended,

God be praised, the Georges ended.

God be praised, the Copperhead Georges

will be ended by the American people on

the 8th of November!
