Mauch Chunk, Pa., Aug. 10.
J. Eager, of New York, and Master Charles
Booth, son of the Proprietor of the Mansion
House, on Sunday evening, were driving over
Battle Bridge, East Mauch Chunk, when the
horse took fright at a hole in the
bridge, and backed the carriage to the side,
throwing over both occupants, fatally injuring
Mr. Eager and slightly injuring Master Booth.
The bridge was under repair and there was no
railing on it, showing great negligence on the
part of those repairing it.
Mr. Eager died before reaching the Mansion
House. He fell forty feet.
