CHARLESTOWN. (South-Carolina,) June 1.

Their Excellencies Thomas Boone, Esq; our Governor, Arthur Dobbs, Esq; Governor of North-Carolina, James Wright, Esq; Governor of Georgia, His Honour Francis Faquier, Esq; Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, and John Stuart, Esq; his Majesty's Agent for Indian Affairs in the Southern District, we hear, have received Orders from his Majesty to hold a Congress or general Meeting with the principal Headmen of the Choctaw, Cherokee, Creek, Chickasaw and Catawba Indians, and their Confederates, at Augusta in the Province of Georgia, or some other proper Place, at which, it is not doubted, his Majesty's gracious Intentions, and the Abilities of the Gentlemen appointed to explain them to the Indians, will conciliate their Affections to the British Nation and Interest, and entirely efface any Umbrage they may have conceived from the French, being entirely driven from amongst them.---In March last the Goods proper for Presents to the Indians, were actually purchased in London, by his Majesty's Order, to the Amount of about 5000l. Sterling, and were speedily to be shipped for this Port to our Governor, in Order to be distributed at the intended Congress, which, we hear, his Excellency has proposed shall be holden at Augusta, the 15th of September. The Expence of Presents for the Indians we are told will henceforth be defrayed by the King.
